2020
The creation
Hacienda Valentino was founded by Javier Balderas & Tim Janes, who are also owners of Leisure Life Properties, that operates property management and vacation rental services for a high-end, luxury, 9 villa condominium complex in Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo, Mexico. It had always been their dream to have a boutique hotel, but it had to be in a magical place worth visiting, where a boutique hotel would fit well within the environment. In November, 2020, after several leisure visits to San Cristóbal, Javi and Tim knew they found that “magical place” and launched Hacienda Valentino, as they found few options for reasonably priced hotels that offered great services and amenities.
Tim and Javi have been together for 23 years, and officially married for six of them. They have two four-legged “children”, Valentino, part/mostly Border Collie rescued in Puerto Morelos, for whom the hotel is named; and Chanel, part no-one-can-figure-it-out-yet rescued in San Cristobal, who is irritated she doesn’t even have a room named after her!
2021
Breaking Ground
The design process was both arduous and exciting. Our goal was to incorporate the Cyprus trees into the design, create rooms that are comfortable, eliminate the things we didn’t like when staying at other hotels, and closely follow the historical preservation requirements for the property. After months of design, planning, and permitting that met our requirements, a team was assembled and construction began!

Hacienda Valentino, located at the corner of Av. Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez and Julio M Corza, in San Cristóbal de las Casa, Chiapas, Mexico is a new, boutique, tourist-class hotel close to most everything our guests look for in San Cristobal. The hotel is focused on providing rooms with a clean and modern character that is comfortable for visitors, and a higher-end experience for reasonable pricing that is attractive for guests. While the hotel common areas maintain its Mexican-colonial charm complete with courtyards, fireplaces, fountains, and yes, our Cyprus trees; the Hotel’s rooms feature more modern furniture and accessories, with higher end amenities.
